Arena in Verona
The Arena in Verona is located on the beautiful Bra' Square in the centre of the city.
The comprehensive programme on lyric operas attracts visitors from all over the world. The ambience is unique too. This is an amphitheatre dating back to the 1st century after Christ. After the Colosseum in Rome and the Capuano amphitheatre this is one of the best preserved amphitheatres.
The arena was built between the end of the empire of Augustus and the empire of Claudio outside the city wall of Verona. The arena was initially a venue for battles and gladiator fights.

Today, the Lyric Festival with the Aida, the mostly played and most representative opera of the Arena, takes place during the summer months. Other operas, which have

been played several times in the Arena during the past: Carmen, Nabucco, Turandot, Rigoletto, Tosca, La traviata, Cavalleria rusticana, Il trovatore, La Gioconda, La bohème, Madama Butterfly, La forza del destino, Mefistofele, Pagliacci, Un ballo in maschera, Andrea Chénier, Othello, Norma e Lucia di Lammermoor.

Pop and rock concerts also take place in the Arena in Verona. Here you can listen to world stars like at the Italian music event "Festivalbar", which always ends with a spectacle in the Arena in Verona.

Classical ballet shows are also part of the programme.
